Getting a Website Built in North Cyprus: A Step-by-Step Guide

A practical guide for businesses in North Cyprus: goals, content, domain, design, languages, SEO and aftercare, step by step, before and after a new website goes live.

Many businesses in North Cyprus start online with Instagram and WhatsApp. Both are great for reaching customers quickly, but neither belongs to you: the platform sets the rules, posts disappear down the feed, and someone searching Google for "who does this in Famagusta?" won't find you there. A website is your business's permanent address on the internet. This guide walks through the steps a business in North Cyprus goes through, in order, when it gets a website built.

1. Write down the site's job first

"We need a website" isn't a goal. Before anything else, write one sentence: what should this site get a visitor to do? For example:

  • A service business: send a WhatsApp message or call.
  • A hotel or restaurant: book, or check the menu and get directions.
  • A shop: buy the product online.
  • A law or consulting firm: trust the firm enough to ask for a meeting.

That sentence decides the order of the pages, the main button on the home page and which information comes first. Sites without a clear goal tend to explain everything and get people to do nothing.

2. Be clear about who you're talking to

Customers in North Cyprus are rarely one group: local customers, visitors from Turkey, English-speaking residents, university students, tourists and buyers from abroad. The site's language, tone and content follow from that mix. If many of your customers speak English, planning a bilingual site from day one is far better than bolting on a translation later. Our guide to multilingual websites covers this in detail.

3. Prepare the content before the design

The most common reason web projects slip isn't design or code, it's content. Start collecting these before design begins:

  • Your services or products, each with a short description.
  • Real photos: your place, your team, your products, your work. Stock images don't build trust.
  • Frequently asked questions and their answers. The questions customers ask most on WhatsApp are a good start.
  • Contact details: phone, WhatsApp, email, address or the areas you serve, opening hours.
  • Your past work and references, only real ones you have permission to show.

With content ready, the design is shaped around it. Without it, text gets squeezed into empty boxes later.

4. Domain, hosting and email

Pick a short domain that's easy to remember and easy to say over the phone. One important detail: the domain and hosting account should be in your business's name and under your control. If the person or company who built the site changes, the domain must stay yours.

An email address on your own domain (for example info@yourbusiness.com) looks far more professional than a personal one and carries the same identity as your site.

5. Template or custom design?

Templates start fast, but they often look like everyone else, carry heavy code and become less flexible as you grow. A custom design takes more work; in return you get a structure that's yours, faster pages and a site that grows with you. Whichever you choose, ask four questions:

  1. How fast does the site open on a phone?
  2. Can I update the content (text, photos, projects) myself?
  3. Are page titles and URLs set up properly for search engines?
  4. When the business grows (a new language, a new service, online sales), will the site need rebuilding?

For what drives the cost, see our article on website prices in North Cyprus.

6. Mobile, speed and search basics

Most of your visitors will arrive on a phone, so design for the phone first: readable text, buttons that are easy to tap, one-tap calling and WhatsApp.

Speed matters as much as looks. Google measures page experience with Core Web Vitals: how quickly the main content appears (LCP), how quickly the page responds to taps (INP) and whether the layout jumps while it loads (CLS).

Set up the search basics from the start:

  • A title and description for every page.
  • A separate, descriptive page for each service.
  • Readable URLs.
  • A sitemap and a Google Search Console property.
  • A Google Business Profile. Our local SEO guide explains how to show up on the map.

7. A pre-launch checklist

Before going live, try each of these:

  • Does tapping the phone number start a call, and does the WhatsApp button open the right number?
  • Does every page look right on a phone, a tablet and a computer?
  • Are there broken links or empty pages?
  • Has a native speaker read the text in every language?
  • Are images compressed, and do pages open quickly?
  • Are the privacy notice and contact details up to date?

8. After launch: care and measurement

A website isn't finished when it goes live. As your services, pricing policy or opening hours change, the content needs updating, and the technical side needs regular care. Google Search Console shows which searches your site appears in and which pages are indexed, and that tells you what to write next.
